چکیده

The cloud is often utilized with the hope to increase the IT budget efficiency. The cloud service model Software as a Service in combination with its key feature multi-tenancy shines here brightly, but its adoption is complicated by the multiplicity of possible solutions. In detail, multiple multi-tenancy implementations meet many possible database systems requiring a reliable comparison to find the optimal solution. This article briefly explains multi-tenancy, its benefits and implementations. It also indicates through the results of a literature review that no benchmark for multi-tenancy implementations exists. It proposes and describes a benchmark and its setup to gain reliable results of the disk space usage

MulTe: A Multi-Tenancy Database Benchmark Framework

Multi-tenancy in relational databases has been a topic of interest for a couple of years. On the one hand, ever increasing capabilities and capacities of modern hardware easily allow for multiple database applications to share one system. On the other hand, cloud computing leads to outsourcing of many applications to service architectures, which in turn leads to offerings for relational databas...

A Hybrid Multi-Tenant Database Schema for Multi-Level Quality of Service

Software as a Service (SaaS) providers can serve hundreds of thousands of customers using sharable resources to reduce costs. Multi-tenancy architecture allows SaaS providers to run a single application and a database instance, which support multiple tenants with various business needs and priorities. Until now, the database management systems (DBMSs) have not had the notion of multi-tenancy, a...

MuTeBench: Turning OLTP-Bench into a Multi-Tenancy Database Benchmark Framework

Database benchmarks have been used for decades to load test systems and to compare systems or system configurations with each other. However, their methods and assumptions are hardly suitable for multi-tenant cloud database services. Those systems have to provide both performance isolation of a lot of tenants with dynamic workloads and cloud computing features like scalability, elasticity, and ...

Comparison of Different Implementations of Multi-Tenant Databases

In an ever-growing Internet population and world’s globalisation ‘on demand’ service applications are trying to replace traditional ‘on premisses’ solutions. The hosted services (or Software as a Service) model is gaining therefore much importance. In this model the software vendor provides an Internet hosted version of the application. Customers are then accessing it from a website and are pay...

Degree of Multi-tenancy and its Database for Cloud Computing

Multi-tenancy, which allows a single application to emulate multiple application instances, has been proposed as a solution to this problem. By sharing one application across many tenants, multi-tenancy attempts to replace many small application instances with one or few large instances thus bringing down the overall cost of IT infrastructure. In this paper, we present importance of Multi-tenan...
